September 11

Writing of Vande Matharam, today happens to be the death anniversary of the man who in addition to writing a Vande Matharam song, defied death as no other.

"kaala unnai siru pulenna mathikiren
en kaalaruge vaada satre unnai mithikiren"

my comments were overdue since long. loved that lyrics from siraichalai. more so because i could understand them. i have some learning disability with respect to lyrics/poems. i can understand the words individually but not the whole line. that one was refreshingly simple, yet evocative.

can you explain the lines in this post?

CV,
As far as my understanding goes, Bharathi says essentially that he is treating Death(Kala) as just a blade of grass. Normally one doesn't hesitate to stamp on grass and in fact does it with authority. Bharathi goes many steps further and claims that he shall trample even Lord of Death with the same impunity. In other words he has the ultimate disdain for death.
(I do not know of any deeper significance to this)

Wow..

imagine my predicament....i was reading kaala as "leg" ...and hence could not make sense of it... good that Bharathi was not around.....else he would have first trampled me :-)

as a stray thought, it is an irony that he who wanted to trample death was himself trampled to death
